Downey City Library to host 5th annual Beyond the Book Festival
DOWNEY, CA — The Downey City Library will host its fifth annual Beyond the Book Festival on Saturday, Oct. 11, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Downey City Library, 11121 Brookshire Ave.
The free, family-friendly event celebrates local artists, writers, crafters, musicians, and makers who highlight the community’s do-it-yourself spirit, according to a city news release.
The day kicks off at 10 a.m. with a live vinyl DJ set by Sylvia on the patio. At 10:30 a.m., the Bob Baker Marionette Theatre will perform its Halloween-themed “Spooktacular” show, followed by Zany Zoe Magic at noon and LoveBug & Me Music at 2 p.m.
Other activities include a Nintendo Switch tournament with prizes, face painting, and crafts in the children’s area. In the Workshop, the library’s makerspace, guests can take part in interactive sessions such as cyanotype tote-bag printing. A mirror photo booth with free prints will also be available in the Studio.
Outside, visitors can explore Vendor Row, featuring local makers and small businesses such as The Fig Design House, Upcycled Enchantments, My Secret Copy, Soy Latina Candles, Cositas by Desy, Joyful Imperfections, and Funky Delites.
Food trucks will be on-site.
