BELLFLOWER, CA — A 39-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a vehicle exiting a parking lot on Artesia Boulevard on Friday, Oct. 9, authorities confirmed.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner identified the victim as Eric Johnson, 39. His death was attributed to traumatic injuries and ruled an accident.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, Johnson was traveling eastbound on Artesia Boulevard near Bixby Avenue when his motorcycle collided with a vehicle pulling out of a parking lot.

Emergency personnel responded to the collision around 6:14 p.m. and provided aid to Johnson and the occupants of the vehicle. Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators believe the collision was likely caused by the vehicle entering the roadway unsafely from private property, according to Detective Ayala of the Sheriff's Department's Lakewood Station.

Surveillance footage obtained by investigators did not indicate that speed was a factor, Ayala said.

Deputies also administered a field sobriety test to the vehicle's driver and determined that the driver was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

No one was in custody as of Oct. 19, and the investigation remained ongoing, according to Ayala.

Authorities have not announced whether any citations or criminal charges will be pursued.
