Woman killed in Downey crash, investigation ongoing
A woman died after being struck by a vehicle the morning of April 14 at a busy Downey intersection, authorities confirmed.
Officers responded to a vehicle-versus-pedestrian collision at Florence Avenue and Lakewood Boulevard, according to the Downey Police Department, near the oldest operating McDonald’s, a well-known local landmark.
The pedestrian was taken to a local hospital in critical condition and later died from her injuries, police said in an email Wednesday..
Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the crash, and no arrests have been made. The investigation remains ongoing.
A woman who identified herself as a relative said the victim was crossing the street when she was struck around 9 a.m. by a driver making a right turn. The driver remained at the scene, according to a post on the Facebook group Crime Watch of Downey, CA.
Authorities have not released the identity of the victim.
