DOWNEY, CA — Warren High School in Downey was placed on lockdown Tuesday after police received a bomb threat around 2 p.m., authorities confirmed.

The call was later determined to be a “swatting” incident—a false report intended to trigger a large police response—and was one of at least four similar calls made to high schools the same day, the Downey Police Department said in an email.

Officers responded to the campus and conducted a search “out of an abundance of caution,” but did not locate anything of concern, police said. No injuries were reported, and authorities did not indicate any ongoing threat to students or staff.

Initial reports of the lockdown surfaced in a tip posted to the South Downey Facebook page, which the SELA Sun reviewed before seeking official confirmation.

Authorities did not identify the other schools targeted or where the calls originated.

We are continuing to report this story and will update as more information becomes available.
